POWER RANKINGS: BYU's Spot Will Shock You, Utah Soars, Is Texas Tech Dead, Houston Falls, Arizona?
The network executives and suit-and-tie computer algorithm guys in Bristol got their absolute dream scenario this weekend, as two top-ten Big 12 powers got slammed directly in the mouth. Unblemished No. 2 BYU and undefeated No. 8 Texas Tech both walked into hostile road environments, left their physical edge on the team bus, and paid the ultimate price in the mud. Down in the Orlando heat, BYU took an absolute punch to the jaw from UCF. For four quarters and two double-overtime periods, the Cougars tried to battle back behind Bear Bachmeier’s grit. But when Keyone Jenkins punched in the final score and UCF held firm on a goal-line stand, BYU suffered a brutal 39-31 double-overtime heartbreaker. Meanwhile, up at Nippert Stadium, Texas Tech got exposed by a ruthless, blue-collar Cincinnati squad. The Bearcats didn't care about Tech's top-ten national ranking—they lined up, steamrolled the Red Raiders for 255 rushing yards behind Cole Tabb's 173-yard clinic, and handed Texas Tech a 37-24 beating. The corporate media will use these two upsets to write off the entire conference, claiming the Big 12 lacks elite firepower. They’ll ignore the sheer physical violence required to survive eight straight weeks in college football’s most unforgiving gauntlet. BYU and Texas Tech got knocked down, but real football programs don't cry to the suits—they wipe off the dirt and get ready to fight back. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
