Throwback Thursday: Ken McElroy, The Bully of Skidmore Pt. 2
After decades of intimidation and legal loopholes, Ken McElroy’s reign of terror came to a sudden end on July 10, 1981. In front of 30 to 45 witnesses, he was shot dead in the middle of Skidmore, Missouri, and no one claimed to see who pulled the trigger. In today's second Throwback Thursday episode, Carter Roy reconstructs the tense town meeting that preceded the shooting, the fatal confrontation outside a local tavern, and the investigation that unraveled when an entire community closed ranks.
