Geocache Talk - The 2026 EarthCache Purge with ALL THINGS EARTHCACHE

EarthCaches have always been more than just another icon on the map. They take us to cliffs, caves, shorelines, road cuts, fossils, faults, and formations, places where geocaching becomes a hands-on lesson in how the Earth works. But in 2026, the geocaching community is watching a new wave of EarthCache archivals, updates, and tough conversations unfold. What’s being called the “EarthCache purge” has many cachers asking the same questions: Why are these caches disappearing? What makes an EarthCache worth saving? And what can cache owners do before it is too late? This week on Geocache Talk, we’re joined by All Things EarthCache to dig into what’s happening, what it means for the future of EarthCaching, and how geocachers can help preserve high-quality educational experiences in the game.
