Portugal response to Ceuta crisis, EU housing & healthcare warning, plus AIMA reduction

For Monday 3rd August 2026, Carl Munson’s Good Morning Portugal! news reports that Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has confirmed Portugal’s support for an emergency EU interior ministers’ meeting on Tuesday to address the migration surge at the Ceuta border, calling for a coordinated European response.

Other headlines include a fuel-price split (petrol falling while diesel rises), an unprecedented surge in rental demand in Coimbra, an EU warning to Portugal over housing shortages and healthcare access, the AIMA backlog task force reaching a 20% reduction milestone (though hundreds of thousands of cases remain), northern Portugal preparing for a rare total solar eclipse on 12 August, updated inter-island airport fees in the Azores, confirmed autumn “Moving to Portugal” roadshow dates in the UK and Ireland, and the construction sector facing a crisis due to tightened immigration rules.
