Mega Edition: Ghislaine Maxwell And Juror # 50 (3/27/26)

In Ghislaine Maxwell's 2021 sex trafficking trial, Juror #50, identified as Scotty David, became a focal point of controversy post-verdict. After Maxwell's conviction, David publicly disclosed his own history as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, stating that he shared this experience during jury deliberations to help others understand victim behavior. This revelation raised concerns because, during jury selection, he had failed to disclose his abuse history on a mandatory questionnaire, which specifically inquired about such experiences. Maxwell's defense argued that this omission could indicate bias, potentially compromising the trial's fairness.

In March 2022, U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan conducted a hearing to assess whether David's nondisclosure warranted a retrial. During testimony, David expressed regret, describing his failure to disclose as one of the "biggest mistakes" of his life, but maintained it was unintentional. After evaluating the circumstances, Judge Nathan concluded that David's omission was not deliberate and found no evidence of bias affecting his impartiality. Consequently, in April 2022, she denied Maxwell's request for a new trial, upholding the original conviction.
