Is Sourdough Bread The Healthiest Bread? | EP 431
Ten years ago, I told Dr. Oz on his daytime show that sourdough was the best of a bad choice, and somehow that turned into “Dr. Gundry says eat sourdough.” Today, I’m setting the record straight. In episode 431, I’ll explain why the very thing that makes sourdough special may not do what you’ve been led to believe, and why the problem may go deeper than the flour itself. I’ll share a surprising story about patients who seemed to be doing great until something changed. I’ll also pull back the curtain on what’s really going on inside U.S.-made bread, and why even the artisan bakery down the street may not be the safe haven you think it is.If you love bread (like I do!) but care about your gut health and longevity more, this one’s for you. I’ll also leave you with some swaps for when you really gotta have a loaf, plus a quick answer to a listener’s question about vitamin D3.In this episode, you’ll learn:(00:44) How I got pegged as the “sourdough guy” and why I wouldn’t say it again(01:43) What fermentation can’t do to gluten(02:43) The pre-harvest spray that may make wheat even harder on your gut(03:41) What happened to my patients after a trip to France(06:54) The hidden ingredient in your bread that may affect your brain(08:50) Bread swaps, including a DIY loaf(10:00) My final verdict on sourdoughThank you to our sponsors!
