The Enfield Poltergeist: Haunted or Hoax? | After Midnight

The Enfield Poltergeist began in 1977 inside an ordinary council house in North London, where a mother and her four children reported knocking in the walls, moving furniture, flying objects, and increasingly disturbing activity centered around eleven-year-old Janet Hodgson.

Before long, police officers, neighbors, reporters, and paranormal investigators were all drawn into the case.

Some incidents appeared impossible to explain. Others were caught being faked.

That contradiction became the heart of the Enfield mystery. Janet and her sister admitted they sometimes played tricks, yet witnesses outside the family also described things they could not account for.

Nearly fifty years later, the case remains one of the most debated hauntings in paranormal history.

Was Enfield an elaborate hoax, a genuine poltergeist—or something that never fit neatly into either explanation?
