Actinogen Medical's XanaMIA Alzheimer’s trial nears November results

Actinogen Medical CFO Will Souter talked with Proactive about the completion of the final patient visit in the company’s pivotal XanaMIA Phase 2b/3 Alzheimer’s disease trial and what investors can expect ahead of top-line results in November. Souter described the final patient visit as “a major milestone in any clinical trial”, noting that XanaMIA has progressed through an interim analysis and three meetings of its independent data monitoring committee. He also highlighted the significant time and effort involved in running the study, with patients undergoing treatment for 36 months. Looking ahead to the November top-line results, Souter discussed the efficacy Actinogen Medical is targeting relative to existing antibody treatments for Alzheimer’s disease. If results are positive, the company is actively planning a final Phase 3 trial that would be larger and span more jurisdictions, geographies and demographics. Souter said Actinogen Medical has confirmed with the FDA and European EMA that one additional pivotal trial would be required to reach marketing approval. He added that the company could also discuss the possibility of accelerated approval with the FDA if results are particularly strong, while acknowledging that prospect as “a long shot”.
