The Mushroom That Cures Everything, and Who's Hiding It

A cartoon about a mushroom that cures death sounds absurd until you realize how much of it is pulled straight from real conspiracy theory, mycology, and documented government experiments.

Matt and Paranoid American break down Common Side Effects, the Adult swim animated series that Amazon rejected and Mike Judge co-signed, about a mycologist who discovers a miracle cure and immediately becomes a target of big pharma, the DEA, hippie communes, and pretty much everyone else. They get into the Paul Stamets and Terence McKenna influences baked into the show's DNA, the DMT portal beings, the CIA's real-life town-dosing experiments, and why the villain of this story isn't one corporation. It's the whole system.
