Named in honor of the late Senator Lindsey Graham, the law put 1:31 500 percent tariffs on Russian imports and personally sanctioned Putin. The U.S. Treasury 1:38 Department has, however, just temporarily paused its sanctions on Russian diesel. 1:43 Trump has also temporarily paused a federal tax on diesel, though some state taxes 1:47 may still remain all in an effort to rein in diesel prices that have shot up 1:51 as much as 70% since the war with Iran. 1:55 These measures will likely not bring diesel prices down, however. 1:58 For example, the diesel Russia will provide amounts to just a few days of American national 2:03 diesel consumption. 2:05 Emily Fang, NPR News, Washington. 2:07 President Trump has selected a new press secretary. 2:10 He named Katie Zachariah to the post today. 2:13 She'll succeed former press secretary Caroline Levitt, who left that position in August. 2:17 NPR's Deepa Shivram has more on that story. 2:19 Zachariah is a political commentator and an advisor with Trump's Media and Technology 2:24 Group, which runs Trump's social media site, Truth Social. 2:27 She also briefly served as a spokesperson at the Department of Homeland Security. 2:31 It's not clear when her first day in the role would be, or when the first press briefing 2:35 would be. 2:36 Those briefings have largely been on hold since Levitt left the position earlier this 2:40 year. 2:41 Trump's selection of a new press secretary comes as the president and his party are 2:44 facing headwinds in the upcoming midterm elections. 2:46 On social media, Trump says he's confident Zachariah will deliver 2:50 strong results for our country and calls her a loyal and brilliant supporter. 2:55 Deepa Shivaram, NPR News, The White House. 2:57 Stocks closed up on Wall Street today with the Dow up 423 points. 3:02 And you're listening to NPR News. 3:07 Hall of Fame, tight end and Super Bowl winning coach of the Chicago Bears, Mike Ditka, has died. 3:12 He was 86 years old. 3:13 as Noah Jennings, a member station, WBEZ reports his look 3:17 was just as legendary as his football career. 3:20 Mike Ditka was more than a coach. 3:22 He was a symbol. 3:23 His signature style, the mustache, 3:25 aviator sunglasses and sweater vest 3:27 inspired the recurring Saturday Night Live sketch 3:30 of the Bill Swarovski Superfans. 3:32 And Ditka, being the bold, outspoken person he was, 3:35 appeared on the sketch once in 1993, 3:38 just days after he was fired from the Bears. 3:41 Look, this is Mike Ditka. 3:43 Yeah, let's get it done, sweetheart. 3:46 And you can take this to the bank, my friends. 3:49 Live from New York, it's Saturday night. 3:52 Dicca's likeness will live on at Bear's Games 3:54 as fans continue filling the stands every Sunday 3:56 in his iconic outfit. 3:58 Friend PR News, I'm Noah Jennings in Chicago. 4:01 A second powerful earthquake has hit Panama, 4:03 the 6.6 magnitude quake followed a Friday morning 4:06 quake of 7.7 magnitude. 4:08 In between the two were several aftershocks. 4:10 The quakes were centered south of the capital of Panama City, where most of the reported 4:14 damage has occurred. 4:16 Some buildings collapsed near the quake's epicenter, and evacuations took place across 4:20 the country. 4:20 The country's president is appealing for calm. 4:24 Residents of the Brazilian city of Manaus are struggling to breathe this weekend 4:28 as wildfires from the Amazon are sending smoke into the area. 4:32 Health officials say pollutants have reached 196 micrograms per cubic meter. 4:36 The normal range is from 3 to 9 micrograms. 4:39 Government workers were sent home on Friday because of the smoke.
