Advent is a season of waiting — not passive, but active, hopeful waiting. The psalmist waits “more than sentries long for the dawn.” A sentry or night watchman cannot hasten the dawn through waiting. Even so, watchful waiting will help them endure the night and to be ready for whatever may come.
