LGF Ep. 282: Greek Life, American Gratitude & The Obstacle Is the Way

Happy International Lonely Guy Friday! Live from Greece, with questionable internet, background noise, a Greek-speaking Athena, and Zorba taking entirely too long to kick in. Today we get into how European culture prioritizes living while American culture prioritizes working, and why accepting who you are may matter more. We talk about how DJs, Greek music, Springsteen, and even repetitive algorithms can place us into emotional and almost hypnotic states. We also get into how a conversation with a privileged 25-year-old critic of America became a lesson in capitalism, gratitude, fathers, responsibility, and remembering who still pays half the bills. Plus, how America may be deeply flawed while also possessing traditions of generosity, charity, humane treatment, tipping, and helping strangers that travelers often witness firsthand. Kev also discusses how empathy for younger generations does not require endorsing entitlement, hatred or burning down systems and how parents may finally be learning to limit screens and more. Also, understanding a difficult father does not require accepting abuse, but may require admitting that imperfect parents were often loving as well as they knew how. Kev talks about how Sylvester Stallone continues living the Rocky story, turning obstacles, rejection, and lost ownership into yet another achievement at nearly 80 and how the barriers blocking your path may ultimately create the story only you could tell. Then, how cognitive decline affects entire families, with love and prayers for Bob Backlund. Plus, the ultimate RGF houseguest rule: when visiting someone’s home how to make them cry when you leave, not celebrate your departure.Yasu, efcharistó, Bye Betches!
