Trump’s Kennedy Center Gamble | Global News

Trump’s controversial grip on the Kennedy Center is sparking chaos as his board shuts down most operations amid a legal battle over renaming the landmark. After a judge blocked putting Trump’s name on the building — citing lack of congressional approval — the administration doubled down, claiming safety repairs are needed and that $257 million in federal funds are conditional on his branding. Trump, who allegedly donated $17 million to the center’s endowment, clashed publicly with Congresswoman Joyce Beatty during a virtual board meeting, calling her “incompetent” after she labeled him responsible for “extreme harm.” The crumbling infrastructure — including a recent ceiling collapse — adds urgency, but Trump’s push for personal recognition is alienating allies and hitting legal roadblocks. With the Justice Department appealing the ruling and lawyers warning that without his name, fundraising will collapse and the historic venue may be demolished, this cultural icon stands at a crossroads between preservation and political spectacle.
