White House Veteran's Harrowing 9/11 Tale

Gary Walters, a White House veteran, shares his thirty-seven years of service, from protecting presidents to becoming the longest-serving chief usher. His new book, White House Memories nineteen seventy to two thousand seven, offers a unique look behind the scenes. Walters emphasizes his work was always about serving the presidency, not politics. He recounts harrowing accounts, including the September eleventh attacks, where he and a small team cleared the South Lawn for Marine One, and a fireplace mishap in the Yellow Oval Room, where he quickly aired out the room to ensure the evening proceeded without a hitch.
