Nate Bargatze Is Being Called a MAGA Comic

Johnny Mac covers a packed comedy news day: Tony Hinchcliffe discusses roast backlash on Joe Rogan, defending his “everybody gets them” approach and referencing reactions to his George Floyd and Charlie Kirk jokes. A separate controversy involves SNL posting Nate Bargatze’s “Washington’s Dream” sketch on July 4, with The Daily Beast quoting W. Kamau Bell on the political/business risks of being labeled a “MAGA comedian,” also mentioning Hinchcliffe’s ties to Trump and a photo of Shane Gillis backstage with Kanye West. Rainn Wilson criticizes Ricky Gervais’ stance on actors speaking at award shows. Brian Baumgartner shares a cut Office finale story explaining Kevin owning a bar, ahead of a July 14 “Superfan Extended Episodes” release. Josh Johnson describes making timeless specials; Conan recounts Adam Sandler’s neighborhood prank. Emmy notes include “Hacks” leading with 24 nominations, Colbert’s Late Show getting nine, unusual Variety Series voting rules, and key comedy/animated nominees, plus ratings data on Byron Allen’s CBS block.
