The US president says Irish whiskey will be exempt from US tariffs - but the concession will not be extended to the rest of the European Union. Donald Trump announced the removal of the current 10 per cent levy during the Irish Open trophy presentation at his Doonbeg resort over the weekend. It means Irish whiskey will receive the same tariff-free treatment as spirits produced in the UK, including Scotch and whiskey from Northern Ireland. Speaking at Shannon Airport before boarding Air Force One on Sunday night, President Trump confirmed the exemption would apply only to Ireland. Louise McGuane, the Founder and CEO of JJ Corry Irish Whiskey in Cooraclare, spoke to Alan Morrissey to discuss the implications of this exemption. Photo (c) geralt via Pixabay, Donald Trump
