Overstreet's $2M NIH Grant: Unraveling Post-Surgery Pain
Doctor Demario Overstreet, an assistant professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has secured a significant grant from the National Institutes of Health to study the causes of long-term pain after surgery. His project, Contemporary human models of postoperative pain: A biopsychosocial investigation in general surgery, aims to uncover the factors influencing the transition from acute to chronic pain. Overstreets unique approach, which considers biological markers, sensation tests, and psychological/social factors, has earned him five major awards since 2018. His work, supported by colleagues Doctor Lily Gutnik and Doctor Daniel Chu, could revolutionize pain management in surgery. DNN | The Daily News Now! The world’s first global local news network.
