About

Born: January 28, 1971 in Charlotte

This soulful singer's journey began in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he initially landed a deal with Uptown Records to record his debut album, only to see it shelved due to lackluster singles. However, a breakout guest performance on Nappy Roots' 2002 single "Po' Folks" catapulted him to stardom, reaching number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning him a coveted spot on Jermaine Dupri's So So Def Recordings. With this newfound momentum, his career was set to soar.
