About
Born: February 3, 1947 in Amsterdam Died: September 28, 2018
In the realm of South African music, a legendary figure emerged in the 1980s as the driving force behind the groundbreaking Voëlvry movement, a collective of anti-establishment Afrikaans musicians who sought to break free from the shackles of apartheid-era traditions. Alongside Johannes Kerkorrel and Bernoldus Niemand, this trailblazing artist championed an Alternative Afrikaner ethos, paving the way for a new generation of non-conformist Afrikaans rock music. As a true icon of South African culture, his influence continues to be felt today.
