Jeffrey Epstein And His Personal Chef
Adam Perry Lang was Jeffrey Epstein’s full-time private chef from roughly 1998 to 2002, a period that placed him inside Epstein’s operation at some of its most important properties and during years when Epstein was already abusing young women and girls. According to Lang’s own FBI interview, he cooked at Epstein’s Manhattan townhouse, Palm Beach home, Little St. James and Zorro Ranch, traveled on Epstein’s plane and sometimes prepared food at Ghislaine Maxwell’s residence. He said he mostly reported to Maxwell and Lesley Groff and was essentially on call around the clock, preparing meals and plane snacks according to Epstein’s schedule. Lang later insisted that his job was limited to cooking and that he knew nothing about Epstein’s sexual abuse. But that explanation deserves scrutiny because this was not a chef who occasionally catered a dinner. He spent about four years embedded inside Epstein’s private household, traveling with him, serving his guests and working in the very residences that later became central to survivor accounts and criminal investigations.
The difficult question for Lang is how much someone with that level of access could realistically have failed to notice. In his FBI interview, Lang acknowledged seeing young women around Epstein, knowing that massages were a regular part of the household routine and recalling at least one nude woman in the Virgin Islands, while maintaining that he did not know any of the women were minors or that abuse was taking place. He also said Maxwell instructed him not to speak with guests, a detail that itself illustrates how tightly controlled Epstein’s household could be. None of the publicly available evidence establishes that Lang participated in Epstein’s abuse or trafficking, and he has not been charged with doing so. But his years of proximity make his claim of near-total ignorance consequential: Lang was not looking at Epstein’s world from the outside. He was cooking in the kitchens, traveling between the properties and serving the people moving through them, which is why his knowledge, observations and eventual explanations remain relevant when reconstructing how Epstein was able to operate so openly for so long.
