Richard's first book, Guadalcanal: The Definitive Account of the Landmark Battle , won the US Marine Corps' General Wallace M. Greene Award, and his most recent book, Tower of Skulls , is the first in a trilogy on the war in the Asia-Pacific Theater. On August 7, 1942, the US mounted its first major amphibious landing at Guadalcanal. This campaign proved a strategic turning point for the United States in the war with Imperial Japan.
