These Dark Woods | Momo, the Missouri Monster, and a Summer Camp Nightmare

A Momo campfire legend becomes a fight for survival at an isolated summer camp. Seventeen-year-old Lucy Burr tells her young campers about the Missouri Monster, hoping to scare them into paying attention. Then a hulking figure with glowing eyes appears beyond the firelight. Arrows, snares, and traps suggest this predator has planned the hunt. David O’Hanlon’s “These Dark Woods” pits Scout training against a terrifying pursuer—and sends Lucy back toward a nightmare she cannot leave behind. What is stalking the woods, and how much of the campfire story can she trust?
