Hop-Frog by Edgar Allan Poe: Masquerade Revenge Against a Cruel King

A cruel king treats his court jester’s suffering as entertainment. When that cruelty reaches Hop-Frog’s companion Trippetta, an elaborate masquerade offers the jester a chance to design a performance of his own. Edgar Allan Poe’s “Hop-Frog” is a Gothic revenge story about humiliation, power and the danger of believing someone is too small to resist. Henrique Couto narrates the complete tale for Weekly Spooky, preserving the suspense of a royal celebration whose costumes carry a dreadful purpose. The king wants a spectacle; Hop-Frog knows how to provide one.
