Best of 2024 | I Used to Work in a Fire Tower with a Strange Set of Rules

A former fire-tower worker takes a warehouse security job with another strange set of rules. Staying awake is only the beginning: creatures, locked rooms and an impossible stairway turn the night shift into a desperate attempt to survive until morning. Michael Kelso’s “I Used to Work in a Fire Tower with a Strange Set of Rules” returns as a complete two-part Best of 2024 story. This rules-horror thriller follows a guard who knows that unusual instructions can be deadly serious—and discovers how little that knowledge protects him when the building stops making sense.
