Blood and Snow: A Murdered Heiress Rises in the Backwoods of Strickfield – Best of 2023

A teenage heiress flees a gunman into a blizzard, where the Backwoods of Strickfield hold something worse than the cold. In Rob Fields’s “Blood and Snow,” Veronica Grande’s inheritance has made her a target, and the family conflict follows her toward a poisoned river. A later expedition finds bare footprints and signs that the wilderness has not kept its dead. This feature-length Best of 2023 story combines winter survival, supernatural revenge and a fortune nobody can claim safely. The searchers came prepared for snow. They are less prepared for what walks through it.
