Radio War Nerd EP199 — Algeria

Guest: James McDougall, author & professor Recorded: September 24, 2019 Judging by subscriber requests over the years, you can't call yourself a true war nerd podcast until you've covered the famous France-Algeria War of the 1950s. Lucky for us, we're joined by Oxford U. history professor James McDougall, author of a remarkable book on the history of Algeria from 1500 to the present: from the Hapsburg Spanish invasions that helped define modern Algeria in the 16th-C., through the Ottoman and French colonial periods, up to the war against France for independence and the murky & savage civil war of the 1990s against proto-ISIS Islamist guerrillas.
