Senate Ends Shutdown, Funds Government Until September
The Senate passed a new funding bill on November eleventh, ending a forty-one-day government shutdown. The bill keeps military construction and veterans affairs funded until September 2026 and the rest of the government until January 2023. Federal workers will return to their jobs and receive back pay. The bill now moves to the House of Representatives for approval, with President Trump supporting the agreement. However, many Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, voted against the deal, arguing it didnt do enough to protect healthcare. A fight over healthcare subsidies is expected in mid-December, with Republicans promising a vote on extending Obamacare premium tax credits, but no guarantee of passage.
