Israel Opens First Embassy in Slovenia | US News

Israel just opened its first resident embassy in Slovenia — a bold diplomatic move symbolizing a fresh start after years of strained ties. Foreign Minister Gideon Saar hailed it as historic, especially amid global shifts away from Israel, while Slovenia’s new Prime Minister Janez Jansa emphasized reversing past policies that distanced his country from Jerusalem. Jansa linked rising antisemitism to an alleged alliance between radical left and radical Islam, pledging to lift bans on Israeli goods and officials. Saar and Slovenian Foreign Minister Tone Kajzer also signed agreements to deepen cooperation in education, science, and culture. Despite protests from hundreds opposing the opening, Slovenia sees this as a vital step toward rebuilding trust and strengthening its partnership with Israel.
