Councilman Ossé Challenges Jeffries in NY Primary

Councilman Chi Ossé, a twenty-seven-year-old Democratic Socialist, has filed paperwork to challenge Representative Hakeem Jeffries in the Democratic primary for New Yorks Eighth Congressional District. Ossé, a Black Lives Matter organizer and activist, aims to unseat the current House Minority Leader due to concerns about the Democratic Partys leadership and their failure to effectively fight against former President Donald Trump. This move echoes a strategy used by Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, another Democratic Socialist, but Mamdanis team privately discouraged Ossé from running. The developing story highlights ideological debates within the Democratic Party and challenges facing established leadership from a new generation of progressive politicians.
