Talking Weird #44 76 Years of Flying Saucers with Shanelle Schanz
Shanelle Schanz is the granddaughter of the first "flying saucer" witness, Kenneth Arnold. On June 24, 1947, while piloting his plane near Mount Rainier, Washington, Arnold saw a formation of nine strange flying objects, moving at a speed he estimated was in excess of 1350 miles per hour. And as Arnold would tell newspaper reporters later that day, they flew “like a saucer would if you skipped it across water”. Shanelle has recently re-published the classic book that her grandfather wrote with Raymond A. Palmer: THE COMING OF THE SAUCERS. Available here: https://www.amazon.com/Coming-Saucers-Kenneth-sighting-saucers/dp/B0BTRHDY97 She visits with Talking Weird for the 76th anniversary of the sighting that launched the modern UFO phenomenon. And chats with Dean about her grandfather's experiences, his beliefs about the phenomenon, and the impact that his sighting had on the world.
