The Addiction to Almost
🎙️ The Addiction to Almost When Preparing to Change Becomes Another Way of Avoiding Change With Lynette Le Roux | Tribe Sober Podcast | 31 October 2026 Have you ever noticed how wonderful it feels to decide you’re going to change your life? You buy the book, download the app, sign up for the programme, or discover the next exciting approach to healing. And suddenly, you feel better. Hopeful. Motivated. Almost transformed. But what happens when the excitement wears off? In this deeply personal episode, Lynette explores the addiction to almost — that familiar pattern of constantly searching, learning and preparing for change, without necessarily putting what we already know into practice. Drawing on her own journey from alcohol dependence to more than nine years of sobriety, Lynette shares how she once searched for extraordinary experiences to enhance her life, and how one of her greatest transformations has been learning to find wonder and awe in the ordinary. She also reflects on how this pattern can still show up today, even after years of personal growth. Because transformation isn’t something we achieve once and for all. It’s a way of living. 🦋 In This Episode, We Explore: The addiction to almost: Why preparing for change can sometimes feel as rewarding as actually changing. The search for the next thing: How more information, more healing and more self-improvement can become another way of avoiding discomfort. Insight versus practice: Why understanding our patterns doesn’t automatically change them. Binary thinking: Moving beyond the belief that we’re either succeeding or failing, healed or broken, on track or off track. The three lies of transformation: Why there is no final destination, insight alone isn’t enough, and we don’t have to do it all alone. The power of the ordinary: Discovering that we don’t need to constantly enhance our experience of life to feel fully alive. Connection and accountability: Why supportive relationships help us return to the practices that nourish us. 💛 A Thought to Take Away We don’t nourish ourselves until we’re healthy and then stop. We don’t practise emotional awareness until we feel peaceful and then stop. And we don’t reach a sobriety milestone and suddenly graduate from being human. These aren’t simply things we do to get somewhere. They’re ways of living. Perhaps the question isn’t: What else do I need to know? But rather: What do I already know that I’m willing to begin living today? You don’t need another perfect plan. You don’t need to wait until you feel ready. Sometimes transformation begins with one small, loving choice. And then another. 🦋 Connect with Lynette If this episode resonates with you and you’d like support on your own journey of sobriety, self-discovery or personal transformation, I’d love to hear from you.
