Brett Bateman’s Contact Game Shines | Toronto Blue Jays News

Brett Bateman, Toronto’s surprise leadoff hitter, is rewriting rookie narratives with contact over power, slashing .336/.401 in his first 30 games and already ranking among the Blue Jays’ all-time best early-season hitters. Acquired in a Gausman trade, the former Cubs draft pick thrives on line drives, ground balls, and getting on base — a rare skill in today’s game. His high line-drive rate and ability to hit the ball the other way keep pitchers guessing, while the Jays’ offense capitalizes every time he reaches. With flashes of power and a sustainable approach, Bateman’s breakout is a bright spot as Toronto fights for a playoff spot — proving that smart hitting still wins.
