Our today's guest is an author, book coach, and writing mentor, Sally Lotz. She published four children's books and has been a runner-up in the Writers' Digest 50th annual short story contest in 2022. Her most recent book, The Truth is a Lie, came out in May of 2023 and is based on her real-life experience of growing up in a cult. And of course, that's what caught my attention when we spoke, because that's an experience not everyone has (luckily). We went back to reflect on her 10 most formative years being raised by mother who devoted herself to the cult (so her children didn’t have a choice). Experience that formed her, what is her life like today, years after she was able to exit this “destiny" feeling that “that's not right.” Not only she wrote her latest book as a journey from abuse to triumph but also turned her love for books and writing into a business. She now guides her clients as a writing coach through the many phases and facets of writing a book and hosts workshops and mini-masterclasses. This was a fascinating look into life I know nothing about - and what it is like to grow up in the cult and with an abusive stepfather on top of that.
