Diwali and Hanukkah are based on the same principles of light and warmth, though the latter developed out of a temple rededication and the former is from a far older, universal practice that we know as Christmas lights, i.e., all lights that illuminate the dark and warm the cold. We can find these festivals all over the world and at all times of the year.
