Vinnie Goowill on Why the 1996 USA Team was WAY better than you remember | 07.21

Bomani Jones is joined by Vinnie Goodwill from ESPN for a Time Machine Tuesday edition of The Right Time, diving deep into the history and legacy of the 1996 USA Men's Olympic Basketball Team (often called Dream Team 3). Bo and Vinnie compare the squad to the iconic 1992 Dream Team and the 1994 World Championship team, breaking down the incredible roster that featured young superstars like Penny Hardaway and Grant Hill alongside dominant big men Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal, and David Robinson.

They discuss why the 1996 team was a physical powerhouse that routinely blew past international competition, how the legendary 1996 free agency period loomed large over the team's tour, and why Charles Barkley managed to be the leading scorer for both the '92 and '96 Olympic runs. Later, they explore the ultimate "what if" regarding Penny Hardaway's injury-shortened prime, the madness surrounding Shaq signing with the Lakers mid-Olympics, and settle the final debate: could the 1996 roster actually beat Michael Jordan and the 1992 Dream Team? . . .
