Roxy Striar & Greg Alba dive into the cult classic 1996 supernatural horror / fantasy film The Craft, directed by Andrew Fleming. This fan-favorite teen witch story follows a group of high school outcasts in Los Angeles who form a coven and begin experimenting with witchcraft — only to discover the dangerous consequences of power, revenge, and corruption. The film stars Robin Tunney (Empire Records, Vertical Limit) as Sarah Bailey, the new girl in town who discovers her own latent powers; Fairuza Balk (American History X, Return to Oz) as Nancy Downs, the troubled and power-hungry leader of the coven; Neve Campbell (Scream, Party of Five) as Bonnie Harper, a shy girl who uses magic to heal her scars; and Rachel True (Half Baked, Nowhere) as Rochelle Zimmerman, who struggles with racism and bullying before turning to witchcraft for retribution. Other cast members include Skeet Ulrich (Scream, Riverdale) as Chris Hooker, the manipulative jock, and Breckin Meyer (Clueless, Road Trip). Highly searched and iconic moments include the girls levitating each other (“Light as a feather, stiff as a board”), Sarah’s mirror-shattering showdown with Nancy, Bonnie’s scar transformation, Rochelle’s revenge against her bully, and Nancy’s terrifying descent into madness. The Craft has since become a cult classic for its gothic aesthetic, ‘90s teen angst, and dark exploration of witchcraft in pop culture.
