Kewaunee County Jail and the Past That Won’t Stay Silent | Guest Brian Huben

Most museums tell their stories through artifacts and old photographs. The Kewaunee County Jail Museum tells its story a little differently.

Yes, it’s a museum, but visitors also talk about staircases where shadows move without anyone on them, and quiet hallways where the temperature suddenly shifts. Paranormal teams have captured voices answering questions in empty rooms, and more than once, a childlike voice has slipped through on recordings, even when no children were in the building.

And then there’s the man locals still whisper about: a desperate inmate named Joe Bushy, whose tragic end inside the original jail—and the strange discovery tied to his grave years later—has many wondering if he ever really left the property at all.

On this episode of the Grave Talks, curator Brian Huben talks about the history, the hauntings, and the experiences that have turned the Kewaunee County Jail Museum into an unexpected paranormal destination on the shores of Lake Michigan.
