Samuel reminds God’s people of three great truths: 1. He has been faithful—a servant of integrity from youth to old age. 2. God has been faithful, delivering His people time and again, even when they strayed. 3. Now they must be faithful—to fear the Lord and serve Him with all their hearts. But what about those who have failed? Those who’ve sinned deeply? Through Samuel’s words, and through the stories of David and Peter, we discover the gospel heartbeat of the Old and New Testaments: There is hope after failure — not because we are strong, but because God is gracious.
