The Five-Star Blues: Arch Manning’s Inconsistencies & Bryce Underwood’s Benching + Week 8 Picks

From The Audible with Stew, Bruce & Ralph: A show about college football The Athletic

Welcome back to The Audible, presented by Trader Joe's. This week, Stew, Bruce, and Ralph dive headfirst into a massive structural shift sitting right on the one-yard line: the nearly green-lit, 24-team expanded playoff format. While the crew breaks down what this transformative change means for the future of the sport, they address a bizarre public apathy surrounding the news, along with the existential realization that we may already be longing for a version of college football that is permanently gone.

The structural changes take a backseat to the immediate blue-chip quarterback crises unfolding at two of the sport's biggest powerhouses. We break down the tape on Arch Manning's continued processing struggles and decision-making errors following Texas' latest disappointing performance. Meanwhile, we unpack the explosive quarterback controversy in Ann Arbor after Michigan pulled the plug on Bryce Underwood at halftime against Penn State. With both generationally hyped signal-callers hitting a performance wall, the crew debates how much blame falls on the young quarterbacks versus their coaches' rigid offensive schemes.

To wrap up the show, the guys deliver their official Week 8 betting breakdowns and against-the-spread predictions. The panel weighs in on a crucial Big Ten test as No. 5 Indiana travels to Michigan, before diving into high-stakes SEC and Big 12 matchups, including No. 8 Texas Tech and Cincinnati, and a critical battle in Austin between No. 7 Ole Miss and No. 19 Texas. Finally, the crew closes out the episode by locking in their individual Upset Picks of the Week.
