Our conversation this week featured Vince Vawter, originally from Memphis before working in newspapers in Memphis, Evansville (Indiana), and Knoxville (Tennessee). He worked at every level of a newspaper from obituary writer through managing editor and on to president and publisher. At a time when most would contemplate retirement, he wrote a Newbery Award-winning novel, followed by two more in the trilogy. Stuttering is a central theme in all his books because, as he says, "It has been a central theme in my life."
