Prescription of Tibetan herbal medications can also be given according to disease diagnosis. Acupuncture is administered with disposable needles or through the use of electrical stimulation. Amchi Kunga Chodak hails from a long and well-respected lineage of Amchis from the Kham region of Tibet (the word ‘Amchi’ means doctor). He is the 6th generation of Amchi in his family. He studied under the guidance of his father and grand uncle, who were Tibetan medical practitioners. In addition, he completed a traditional three-and-a-half-year solitary meditation retreat by the age of 19 in Tibet. Afterward, he escaped Tibet and joined Sakya College, where he studied Buddhist philosophy and astrology extensively. Although it was a difficult decision with some regret, he chose to become a layperson. He then undertook a nine-month Vajrasatva retreat for mental and physical purification. Since then, he has traveled through Asia, operating clinics in Dharamsala, Goa, Ladakh, India, Toronto, and Calgary at Pure North Canada. Currently, he resides in Edmonton, Canada. In addition to his work in these regions, Amchi Kunga Chodak has practiced in Africa, where he provided medical services and treated not only people but also animals, applying his knowledge of Tibetan medicine to help with various conditions.
