US Open Day 5: Eala set for Jovic showdown as Swiatek continues dominant form

Iga Swiatek and Alex Eala ease through, Taylor Fritz drops just two games, and Coco Gauff gets revenge on Paula Badosa! Join Kim and Chris at Tennis Weekly HQ for our US Open Day 5 catch-up as we debate whether Swiatek and Eala have been the most impressive players in New York so far, and whether ‘Eala-mania’ is on collision course for an Eala vs Gauff showdown in Round 4 or will another rising teen Iva Jovic have something to say about that. Plus, apologies are in order as we revisit Alcaraz’s bow-and-arrow celebration and Sabalenka’s all-black outfit!

There’s plenty more to debate as Naomi Osaka and Madison Keys are made to work hard, with Keys saving five match points in a dramatic escape against Anna Bondar. Is Taylor Fritz now a genuine US Open contender after his latest demolition of Mattia Bellucci, or has he simply been handed a kind draw? We also discuss Karen Khachanov’s ‘upset’ of third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, Zverev performing yet another great escape in the night session, the new Adidas cooling kit for the brutal New York heat (we want one for Wimbledon 2027!), as well as look ahead to Day 6 action with Serena and Venus Williams in doubles action for the first time at the US Open since 2022.
