On this Saturday — six days before Passover —

Jesus is in Bethany, reclining at a table with his friends.

Lazarus is beside him. The same Lazarus raised from the dead.

Martha is serving.

And then Mary does something

that will be talked about for the rest of history.

She takes a pound of pure nard — worth a year's wages.

She breaks it open and anoints his feet.

The whole house fills with the fragrance.

Someone calls it a waste.

Jesus calls it worship.
