Send me some one who can read!

Back in the 1960s, there was an advertisement for product called the Great Books and the byline was, “send me a man who reads.” I’m afraid nowadays that employers simply want someone who can read! In fact, a friend of mine who owns a factory in Pennsylvania simply won’t hire anybody underage forty-five. They’re too hard to train. The majority can’t pass a drug test. And there’s simply not the quality of anybody over forty-five who actually knows how to read because they went to public schools...
