A Conversation with the Director of 9 Temples to Heaven

Thai director Sompot Chidgasornpongse, who worked as an assistant director on several films by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, comes to BIFF with his debut feature, 9 Temples to Heaven. What are the connections between the roles of director and assistant director? How do these roles influence one another, and what opportunities and challenges arise from moving between different professional positions throughout a filmmaking career?
