Sazerac Rye Whiskey Review | Old-Fashioned Football (Ep. 256)

On Old Fashioned Football, J Mark and his wife Miranda (the official whiskey taster) review Sazerac Rye, a Buffalo Trace product from Frankfort, Kentucky, noting its common availability and roughly $30 price point.

They score the nose highly, debating baked apple pie versus tart apple with cinnamon and rye spice, while Miranda’s palate impression leans strongly toward a “cinnamon sour apple Jolly Rancher,” leading her to a mediocre score for sipping neat and preferring it as a cocktail whiskey.

They rate the bottle and, for the first time on the show, make Buffalo Trace’s Sazerac cocktail recipe using Sazerac Rye, sugar, Peychaud’s Bitters, and an absinthe spritz in place of Herbsaint, then preview upcoming rye reviews and a future Old Fashioned test on Wife Approved Bets.
