What if one of the smartest career paths in the AI revolution doesn’t begin with a four-year computer science degree, but with a tool belt?

In this episode of Spill the Tea with D & E, Dominique and Erica explore Meta’s America’s Workforce Academy, a $115 million workforce initiative designed to help train skilled tradespeople for America’s rapidly expanding AI and data-center infrastructure.

Qualified participants may receive free training, travel, housing and living-expense support, while graduates are promised a job offer from contractors working on Meta projects.

But what does “five weeks of training” really mean? Are you actually becoming an electrician in five weeks? Who employs you afterward? What credentials do you receive? And could programs like this provide young adults and career changers with an alternative to taking on four years of college debt?

Dominique and Erica dig into the opportunity, the fine print and the bigger question facing the next generation:

Instead of only asking which jobs AI might eliminate, should we also be asking which careers AI is about to make more valuable?

• Visit Meta’s official America’s Workforce Academy information and application materials.
• Look up skilled-trade apprenticeships and community-college programs in your own area.
• Compare the cost, training time, starting wages, benefits and long-term earning potential of at least one trade career and one four-year-degree career.
• If you have a teenager in your life, ask them one question: “What kind of work would you enjoy learning by actually doing it?”

And remember: don’t enroll because an advertisement sounds amazing. Verify eligibility, credentials, employer, compensation, location, housing arrangements and the long-term career pathway.
