Blackbeard: The Pirate, the Legend, and the Ghost

More than three centuries after terrorizing the Atlantic, the towering specter of Edward Teach—better known as Blackbeard—refuses to abandon the mist-shrouded waters of the North Carolina coast. Armed with smoking fuses braided into his beard and a fearsome reputation designed to freeze merchant crews with sheer dread, Teach transformed from a wartime privateer into the most notorious pirate captain in American history, culminating in a daring naval showdown against Royal Navy Lieutenant Robert Maynard at Ocracoke Inlet. In this episode of Southern Ghost Stories, Allen Sircy separates flesh-and-blood history from enduring coastal folklore, exploring the lost wreckage of the Queen Anne's Revenge, the bloody final clash in the shallow waters of Teach's Hole, and the eerie spectral lights said to still haunt the Outer Banks long after the smoke cleared.
