Jon M. Alexander on Nick Caley's Growth, Keylan Rutledge & the Texans' 2026 Outlook

In this episode, I'm joined by Jon M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle to break down some of the biggest storylines surrounding the Houston Texans as they prepare for the 2026 season.

We discuss Jon's conversations with offensive coordinator Nick Caley, including why players have quickly bought into his leadership style, how he takes ownership and accountability, and why those around the organization believe he's willing to adapt and evolve after his first season. We also dive into the context behind reports that Caley may have been too ambitious at times early on and what that means for the offense moving forward.

Other topics include:

• The expected improvement of the Texans' offensive line and how continuity could pay dividends.
• How Houston's offense can continue to evolve with its pre-snap and post-snap operation.
• Why the defense could take another step in 2026 and some potential new wrinkles DeMeco Ryans may introduce.
• Jon's feature on first-round pick Keylan Rutledge, including the devastating car accident he overcame and his basketball background, highlighted by a playoff matchup against Jabari Smith Jr.
• Remembering Janice McNair and the impact she had on the Texans organization.
