The Lost Hero Part 2: Leo + the Villains

Join Erica, Carter, Jackson, and Ola as they begin to unpack Leo, Hephaestus, and why the hell Medea wasn’t brought back to Camp Half-Blood to teach witchcraft.

In this episode, we mention some retellings of the Medea story, which you can check out here:

• Marie Christine by Michael John LaChiusa: https://open.spotify.com/album/3mo6Wk9vGtAvViZq2FVq3G?si=ppp5uHKtRryQNjfnimL_rw

• Circe by Madeline Miller: http://madelinemiller.com/circe/

• Medea by Christa Wolf: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/153480.Medea

As critical as we are of Rick’s portrayal of many of the female mythological figures in this book in particular, we do want to acknowledge that is the original myths themselves, inextricable from the patriarchal societies in which they were originally told, that first created harmful tropes and stereotypes these Riordanverse characters have occasionally fallen into. And we are so looking forward to Disney+ to give the screenwriting team a chance to rethink and reimagine many of the characters that appear in the Riordanverse. And as always, we highly recommend Helen Morales's Antigone Rising for more on this.
